I’m a lucky guy on a number of levels.
For one thing, I have a great wife and partner and I’m not so sure how I was able to manage that.
She’s the sort of person that comes along once in a lifetime. I’m just glad that I noticed how special she was that night inside the radiant heating of her friend’s dorm room. She also noticed me which I was surprised about. But after some hemming and hawing, I got the nerve to talk with her. Twenty years later, we are going strong. But my wife is also the sort of person who looks into details when I don’t. That was certainly the case when we had the new HVAC unit installed. It was the latest in residential HVAC and I was super excited to be getting this thing. Plus, I was so eager to start playing around with all the HVAC technology too. When I get like that, I can tend to be a bit tunnel visioned and not pay attention to other important stuff. That was certainly the case in this situation. Once the HVAC equipment was installed, the HVAC contractor talked with us about our new residential HVAC. Of course, I was registering nothing of what he said because I was so eager to get going with the new smart thermostat. But my wife listened. And that’s how she knew to stop me a few years later when I thought there might be something wrong with the air conditioning. She read the warranty and knew that if I did anything on my own, I’d risk voiding the HVAC warranty.
