When we were going through that first year of the pandemic, I’m so glad that we didn’t cut the HVAC maintenance from the budget. We came close. For sure, the HVAC cooling costs were a big target for savings that first summer. My wife and I both had to work remotely from the central air conditioning of our home for more than a year due to the virus. And we had to take a big pay cut just to keep our jobs. That’s what led to the cost cutting. Actually, we were overdue for some sobering financial perspective. Both my wife and I make a nice living and we were getting a bit loose with our spending. So it was probably a good thing. But that didn’t make it any easier to get our arms around. Both of us were accustomed to working in great heating and cooling. The office building I worked in had great commercial HVAC. And my wife even had zone controlled HVAC which was even more awesome since she had a thermostat in her office. Working from home that first summer was quite a rude awakening. We pushed the thermostat as far up as we could that summer in order to save money. There were times where I’d where a dress shirt for online meetings with shorts on under the desk. But we made it and we did it without missing a single HVAC maintenance appointment either. The HVAC equipment is just so essential to our house that HVAC maintenance is a great value.
