I currently have a toilet that hums, and it still functions but I’m worried about getting into a very bad situation. I’ve noticed that I now need to hold the handle down plus count slowly to 10 to get the toilet to completely flush… About half percent of the time, not everything disappears with a single hit too. I sometimes need to wait for the toilet to quit running plus then flush one more time, and this process is wasting a tremendous amount of water. I am hoping to avoid scheduling a repair with a professional plumber if I can. I can’t actually afford the time or money involved but going without a toilet isn’t a choice. I need to address the malfunctioning toilet as soon as possible. I’ve done some research into how to handle the problem myself. A google article told me to check the water level in the toilet tank. I unattached the cover, looked inside plus found a marked indicator for the water line. It looked fantastic to me, however I went ahead and adjusted the float anyway. The float is a rubber ball supported by a metal arm. I was able to use a screwdriver to turn a screw plus elevate the float a bit. This adjustment didn’t solve the problems. The next fixing option was the toilet flapper or rubber seal that plugs a hole at the bottom of the tank. Any mangle to the flapper can cause water to leak out of the tank. There can also be a problem with the flapper chain being too long or too short. I fiddled around with that for a while plus accomplished nothing. I’ve now decided that I should invest in a new toilet. The existing toilet was in locale when I bought the lake home over 11 years ago, however rather than waste money on a high-priced repair, I would prefer to have a new, more energy efficient option installed.
