I tapped him on the shoulder, which nearly had him jumping out of his skin
I knew my husband has been showing our oldest son had to change the air filters in the air conditioning in the furnace. Our son was 14, and it was time for him to do some chores around the house. Neither my husband nor I thought that changing the HVAC air filters was too hard of a job for him. I don’t know if he was trying to prove us wrong, or if he just hadn’t been paying attention when my husband showed him how to change the air filter. What we knew is after almost an hour, he still hadn’t changed the air filter in the AC unit. I knew it shouldn’t be so difficult just to change one air filter, so went to check on him. I stood and watched him as he looked at the air filter, and appeared to be totally lost. He had the chamber for the air filter open, and had removed the dirty old air filter. Whether he forgot how to put the air filter in, or he wasn’t looking at the instructions, I didn’t know. All I knew is he seemed to waste a lot of time just staring at the air filter. I started to say something to him, when I realized he had his ear buds in. Instead of changing the air filter, he was listening to music and talking to his best friend. I tapped him on the shoulder, which nearly had him jumping out of his skin. I told him that the quicker he got the air filter changed, the quicker he could go over to his friend’s house and see his girlfriend. He blushed 10 shades of red and was done and out of the house within 10 minutes.
