When I bought my house, I knew that I only had a couple of years before I would need to replace the HVAC system.
Originally, I had thought about putting in a new furnace when the air-conditioning went, but I didn’t have the money.
When the air conditioning unit broke, the HVAC Tech told me I still had about 10 more years with my furnace. He told me that to put the new furnace in when I put in a new air conditioning unit was a waste of money. I was really glad to hear him say this, because like I said, I was lacking in funds and unsure if I could afford to install both an AC unit and a new furnace. The young man told me he would send an HVAC contractor to the house so he could do some measurements to make sure I got the proper air conditioning unit for my home. When the contractor got there, he did his measurements and then told me what would be best for my house. I thought he was going to give me choices, but he did not. He showed me which AC unit would be best for me, how big it needed to be, and what the SEER would be on the AC unit. Had he told me he recommended that AC unit for me, and thought the seer should be at 18 or higher, I would not think twice about taking his recommendation. I thought it should be my choice what kind of air conditioning unit I purchased, and I told him this. He apologized, and said that this was his recommendation, and it wasn’t him telling me I had to buy that air conditioning unit.
