When my air conditioning quit working last week, the first thing I checked was my thermostat.
I didn’t think I had a battery in the thermostat, but it was worth checking.
I realized the thermostat wasn’t working properly, when there were no lights, and it wasn’t reading the proper temperature. I called the HVAC company and told them there was a problem with the thermostat. When the HVAC technician got there, he asked if I wanted a new smart thermostat, or the new nest thermostat. My first question was, what was the difference? He started explaining to me how a nest thermostat was so much better than the old smart thermostat. The nest thermostat was the new smart thermostat. While he went out in his service van to grab one of the new nest thermostats for me, I pulled up my phone and started reading. What I found out was that a smart thermostat and a nest thermostat were basically the same thing. The nest thermostat was square where the smart thermostat was round. They were both able to do the same job. The biggest difference between the two was where they were sold. The nest thermostat can be bought on Amazon, whereas most smart thermostats were sold at home centers, or through the HVAC company. When the young man came in with the new nest thermostat, I asked what the difference in price was between this one and the smart thermostat. When he told me it cost a bit more, but the cost was well worth it, I told him I would stick with my smart thermostat.
