I went to attend my son’s school play, plus a fundraiser. There were raffle tickets on sale to support the drama club. After the draw was held, I was ecstatic to learn that I won the grand prize. I got a one month vacation on a deluxe ocean cruise line, in a private suite! I’ve won a few things in my life, and nothing so grand. Since this was my first time on a cruise sheep, I was beyond gleeful for the trip. The trip was beyond my imagination, a total break from the drudgery of my day to day life. This might sound corny, but it was like a fairytale. After my second day on board I decided I never wanted to leave the ship, and started investigating how to use my Heating & Air Conditioning skills to get employment on a cruise ship. My search was short, as I spoke to a ships’ advisor and learned that the HVAC mechanics that they had on staff were severely overworked. Each cruise ship has a huge series of Heating & Air Conditioning systems onboard, to give temp control in all the tens (if not hundreds) of rooms, and the greater cruise ships had an entire department of HVAC mechanics. Job security was never a problem because there was always too much repair to handle. I didn’t get to secure employment during the cruise, of course, because I was enjoying my vacation. However, I did get the contact info for the head of the cruise line Heating & Air Conditioning department. She was in charge of the hiring for all the Heating & Air Conditioning crews on all the cruise ships.
