A non traditional barefoot retirement due to HVAC technology

The children are completely shocked.

They have sort of hovered over me since my wife died from a quick onset of incurable cancer.

But, their jaws sure dropped when I unloaded this new bit of information. I’m about to retire. The kids have been lobbying me to come south to be closer to them and the grandchildren. I get the sentiment but, I’ve still got stuff I want to do and being babied by my grown children is just not for me. I’m not excited about being inside a condo sucking in HVAC cooled air 12 months of the year. I told them I was planning to move to the midwest to build a little place on a piece of land I’ve had for over 20 years. I got the parcel in an inheritance and held onto it. The midwest is a great place to live. While I am not from there, I really feel like I fit in there. It’s just something about the culture I guess. The house is being built to my specifications which is a first for me. The heating and cooling system is unique. It is a geothermal HVAC system. It uses the near constant temp of the ground to extract heating and cooling energy for my new home. The beauty part is the heat is transferred via water. The heated water runs throughout the house in copper tubing which is placed under the floors. It will be incredible to be walking barefoot through my little house as the snow falls outside. I’ll also save so much money over the life of the system.
