My husband and I bought an old house when we first got married and remodeled it. It was a lot of fun at the time, but we realize now that it was probably a mistake. The thing with old houses is that everything is old, so things break down and do not work properly all of the time. We had to replace the furnace last year, and this year the air conditioning stopped working. The house is about forty years old, and we did not expect to have to replace the whole air conditioning system. It ended up costing us thousands of dollars, and I am still upset about it to this day. We have poured so much money into this house, and it seems like something expensive breaks down every single year. I think we would have been better off just buying a newer house that we would not have had to worry about. I did enjoy remodeling the house to look exactly the way that I wanted it to, but I am not sure that the good outweighs the bad in this situation. My husband loves our house, and he does not want to even think about selling it which I do not blame him for, but I am afraid that we are going to go bankrupt if we continue to live in this house. My husband thinks that it was just bad timing that our air conditioner broke, and he does not think that anything else will go. I hope he is right because we cannot afford to fix any other major issues.
