We were called to fix a unit that had stopped working in a house in the farming city. The unit was about 10 years and the owner believed that it still had a few years to do and so did I. This was until we visited the premise and saw how rusty and corroded the unit was. The owner was very adamant about not replacing the unit unless it was beyond help. A water leak had obviously gone unnoticed and had caused corrosion and rust on the system. The hot water boiler looked like it was not going to resurrect anytime soon. The leak was so bad it had also damaged the electric heat pump causing the entire system to shut off. As an experienced HVAC repairman, I honestly did not think this unit would work. I did my best to ensure that I resurrected the unit. While doing the boiler repair, I changed the HEPA filter as well as some of the old heat and AC products that had stopped working like the programmable thermostat. The homeowner solutions business downtown gave me a huge discount for the central heating radiator. After cleaning the furnace thoroughly, I could not believe it when the unit started working. Within an hour the whole home heating situation had greatly improved and my customer was very happy she even requested I help her set up the smart HVAC. She told me that the unit had not given her a lot of issues after the boiler installation was done a decade ago. She also narrated how she used her fireplace to reduce the workload from the unit and that is why it had lasted this long.
