I work in a warehouse that produces car parts.

Most of my family and friends work for the car plant. My mom retired from the company last year and my dad is going to retire next year. I started working at the plant when I turned 18. I was working on a routine task every single day. I stayed busy and I received a promotion 6 months later. I started working in the boiler room and I received a significant pay raise. Everyone working inside the boiler room deals with dangerous and hot conditions, so the rate of pay is significantly higher than other jobs in the plant. A few weeks after I started, there was a huge explosion in the boiler room. The boiler was allowed to run dry and it was producing heat without water. This is easily one of the most dangerous situations when using a hot water boiler. The problem caused an explosion in the boiler room. Luckily, only one person was in the room at the time. That person received minor steam burns on his arms and face. The rest of my co-workers and I were out of work for 3 days while we waited for the boiler repair to be completed. After witnessing the explosion, I can see why this job pays more than others. If I would have been doing my regular job at the time, I would have been seriously or gravely injured.
