Our home is an older house and it was built fairly big.
However, the house is divided into a lot of smaller rooms.
Many of the room are not used at all by any of us. When we first got into this house, we had one central thermostat that tried to control the temperature of the entire house. This caused the most outrageous energy bills. There region we are in is a part of the country where the climate can be extreme and be sort of all over the place. It isn’t unusual for a very hot and humid day to be followed with a precipitous plunge in temperature a few days later. We are forced to be the HVAC furnace or air conditioning from one day to the next during the shoulder seasons. Various rooms in our home lend themselves to heat up due to the large windows that gobble up direct sunlight. To cool these areas of the home, the central HVAC setting was far too low. And, the HVAC would just run and run in an effort to keep up with a part of the house that wasn’t used all that much. The winter was the opposite and the furnace just had too much house to heat. That’s why I now have zone control HVAC. The HVAC crew augmented my existing heating & cooling unit so there are now 6 independent HVAC zones in the house. Now, I am saving a ton of money because I can heat and cool selective parts of my home. I am so thankful to have finally found a solution to this expensive problem.
