Anyone who has ever lived up here in the nether reaches of the north knows what it’s all about when it comes to snow and ice.
- The amounts of that stuff we see around here is close to staggering.
I know I am constantly battling it just to get back and forth to work. There is also all the expense of snow removal equipment and all those bags of icemelt. However, it is still up to me to get out there and sling that snow. That’s why it sort of surprises me that I forgot about the other half of the HVAC for all these years. The air conditioning, in this part of the country, is sort of an afterthought. I wouldn’t even own one if it wasn’t for my wife. She gets hot and bothered in the worst way if the temps get anywhere above 80. So, with this house we put in the air conditioner. I guess I just forgot that the HVAC compressor cabinet just sits outside all through the long winter. I asked the HVAC guy about this and he told me that the weight of snow and ice can do lasting damage to the HVAC components in the cabinet outside. His recommendation was to order a hard plastic cover that slips right over the HVAC. This way, once the cold air is on it’s way, I can simply slip the cover on the HVAC cabinet and leave it until it’s ready to be fired up in the summer. My wife would lose her mind if she had to go a day in the 80’s without her beloved air conditioning.
