Updating mom and dad’s heating system

There was no need to tear down walls and create a giant mess for my parents

My parents have made very few updates to my childhood home. My bedroom still looks exactly the same as it did when I was in high school. There are band posters taped to the walls and a very ugly shag carpeting on the floor. My twin bed is covered in the same pink floral comforter with my old stuffed animal arranged on top. Over the years, my mother has been forced to replace some of her appliances. When her refrigerator couldn’t be repaired, she purchased a new one. However, she hasn’t spent any money on remodeling the ancient cupboards or countertop. My dad has driven the same pickup truck for over twenty years. My mom and dad’s house was always heated by a series of wood stoves. While these stoves put out quite a bit of heat and are inexpensive to run, they weren’t an ideal solution. Certain rooms would be extremely warm while others were downright chilly. Plus, the upkeep of these stoves was getting to be too much for my aging parents. For their anniversary, my brothers and sisters and I combined our money and purchased them a modern heating system. We consulted with a local HVAC contractor to figure out the ideal style of equipment to install. We decided on a ductless multi-split system due to the non-invasive nature of the project. There was no need to tear down walls and create a giant mess for my parents. The ductless system is wonderfully compact and allows for zoned conditioning. My parents now have access to both heating and cooling in every room.
