Calling for furnace repair and technician fails to show up

I recently had some problems with my gas furnace.

When I first noticed the diminishing performance, I should have immediately looked into scheduling repair.

The system gradually put out less and less heated air. The house continually felt chilly and turning up the thermostat made little difference. The noise of operation grew steadily louder, and there was an increase in the amount of dust blowing from the vents. While I was aware of these concerns, I just kept procrastinating over calling for service. I don’t have a regular HVAC contractor who I trust to handle problems with prompt response, honest evaluation and affordable pricing. I knew that I should research local HVAC companies and read customer reviews. I did nothing until the furnace completely quit. Since the outside temperature was down to fourteen degrees with a blizzard warning in effect, I was suddenly in a rush to get the heating unit fixed. I googled HVAC contractors and called the first one that came up in the search. I was relieved when they promised to send a technician that same day. I waited all day for the technician to show up. I didn’t dare leave the house to run errands. The house was freezing cold, and my family was forced to bundle up in layers of sweaters. By five o’clock in the evening, I suspected the technician was not going to show up. I called to check and found out that the HVAC company was closed for the night. I worried that our pipes would freeze overnight. I didn’t dare wait until morning. Plus, my family was miserable. I ended up calling a different HVAC contractor and got stuck paying much higher fees for overtime service.
