Keeping cool during a power outage

Last summer, my family and I had to deal with the pretty significant power outage that lasted for 3 days! My area was struck with a heatwave and a dry spell that left people desperate to crank up their air conditioners.

This ultimately led to our local power grid being overtaxed.

Well, it ultimately failed catastrophically, and extensive repair needed to be done. Never mind repairs, our power grid really needed to be overhauled! Where exactly was our tax money going anyway? Well, whether we like it or not, we had to do without an air conditioner in the dead of the summer in triple digit temperatures. I can tell you that it wasn’t easy. I still had my mobile data, and at least I was able to charge my phone in my car. I looked up ways to stay cool. It seemed counterintuitive, but one of the first pieces of advice was to keep those windows and doors shut and locked tight during the day! That was a little difficult to do, but it was only a matter of the time of day that was important when it came to whether or not we needed to leave our windows and doors open or closed. That same person suggested that we leave our windows and perhaps even our doors open at night to take advantage of the lower temperatures and the cool air. We ended up closing our windows at dawn. That actually worked okay, but it wasn’t quite the same as having an air conditioner, that’s for sure!
