Short term rental while my mother’s health deteriorates

I lucked out finding a short term house to rent. I live overseas with my husband and two kids. Sadly my mother’s health deteriorated quite a bit over the last few months. She needed someone to come and take care of her. I didn’t want to put her in a nursing home. My mother didn’t want to live in another country, but in her hometown. My mother also wanted to live in her house alone. She didn’t want me to be her live-in nurse. She thought it would be easier on me when in fact it made it harder. I looked into hotels but the cost was obscene. I then checked out apartments but they had nothing in them. That is when I lucked out finding a short term house to rent. It was a fully furnished house and everything. I had a table, chair, pots and pans and a TV. All the basics were right there for when I needed them. It made it so easy to be in the area with my mother. I stayed at her house most days and nights. However, when my mother wanted to be left alone, I had a decent place to stay. What is nice is that I got on a month to month lease. Sadly I would renew it every month that my mother was still alive. A morbid way of thinking of things but it was financially smart and very helpful. My mother ended up hanging on five months too. I am really glad I got to be there for her and that the short term rental option ended up being quite easy.
