Me and my wife have found all sorts of ways to ensure that our house stays nice and cool even on the hottest summer time day.
Little things can add up, then for example, we have special reflective blinds on our windows that block out warming sunlight.
On seriously warm mornings, we may even put up blackout curtains on some of our bigger windows. Another thing that greatly helps with blocking out the harsh sunlight that would cause our house to get overly hot is the fact that our house is entirely in the clearing of a small forest, then because we are surrounded by trees, we get a unbelievable amount of shade, plus the sunlight is blocked far more than it would be otherwise. The trees are just far enough away to where they would not cause damage to our house should they fall over in a bad storm, just close enough to provide that needed shade from the sun. I do wonder how much cash special window coverings and shade trees end up saving us on our energy bills every month. There are other things that we do to attempt to save a buck while keeping cool. Our house is particularly well-insulated. After all, we need to trap that precious, cool air blowing from the vents of the air conditioning. We don’t cool the whole city, as they say. Perhaps that is exaggerating, the truth is that a correctly insulated house will save you a lot of cash on heating and cooling costs. The final thing that we do to ensure that we save cash on our energy bills is entirely the most important: we have our heating as well as A/C system correctly tested by a professional!
