This time of year brings both anticipation and a bit of exhaustion.
When you live where I do, the real test each year is from June through September when it comes to heat and humidity.
While we all have some form of residential HVAC, it’s almost all heat pumps. And man, do we ever need the heat pump during the summer. That HVAC cooling is a giant part of being able to navigate this sort of climate. August is the biggest challenge I think. We’ve already been through June and July and the sizzling temperatures made more potent by all the humidity. That’s where the exhaustion sets in. We’ve still got August to get through. And it’s really the hottest of the four months of heat season. Again, without the residential HVAC at home and the commercial HVAC at the office, this place would be inhabitable at least by me. Yet there was a time when there was no such thing as residential HVAC. My dad grew up in a house that had a little wood stove for heating and zero air conditioning. I just can’t even fathom that. It’s not just the cooling of the house either. When the heat pump starts the HVAC cooling process, it does so by extracting heat energy and exhausting it outside. That not only makes room for the cooling air to follow but it balances the humidity levels as well. So the heat pump keeps up cool and dry during this blazer of a summer. The humidity balance also keeps us from having to deal with the mold & mildew that we otherwise would be fighting against daily.
