When my son asked me why I didn’t have a man cave like the other dads, I was hard pressed for a good answer.
Honestly, I really am not all that into sports and being a guy’s guy I suppose.
I mean, I enjoy college hoops and just love the tournament in the spring. But I’m really more of a get outside of the air conditioning sort of dude. I’ve sort always been this way. Even growing up in my folk’s house, I was not into just sitting around inside the central air conditioning watching TV. This was a bit of a disappointment to my dad who was a huge sports fan back then. I was just more interested in doing things instead of being inside the air conditioning of a house. So I tried to relay those sentiments to my son. He just sort of stared at me. The kid was the only boy in a houseful of girls. That’s when we decided that while it may not be a man cave, we were going to make a place for us. With six of us in this house, there wasn’t a whole lot of extra space. Then it dawned on me that we could utilize the attic. Our attic is almost a finished space. The former owner put up sheetrock walls and had the space wired. All we had to do was have the HVAC professionals install the ductless heat pump so we had some heating and cooling up there. We through a rug down, assembled a futon and put some camp chairs up there as well. No we have a sort of treehouse feel without the tree and plenty of quality heating and air thanks to the ductless heat pump.
