Furnace offers benefits and drawbacks

The gas furnace is a single of the most pressing systems installed into my home, but it was also a single of the most expensive pieces of unit I’ve purchased; Every one of us rely on the heating system for approximately many weeks out of the year.

I live in an area where the winters are known for being long, freezing cold and snowy.

I correctly start up the gas furnace sometime in late October or early October and the two of us might still need it at Easter or even Mother’s Day, then the gas furnace handles temperature below freezing and down into the downside twenties. It works by sending heated air through a series of ductwork installed inside the walls and ceilings. The air flows out of supply registers located in each of the rooms; Stale air is pulled out of the room by way of return vents and sent back to the gas furnace. The benefits of a gas furnace are many, however my oil furnace is only a couple of years old and achieves a 98% AFUE rating! Because it is highly energy efficient, it helps to keep my daily energy bills sufficient. However, there can be problems with energy losses due to holes and cracks in the ductwork. The average home sacrifices up to 30% of conditioned air by way of flaws in the duct system, then plus, any little buildup of dust or debris within the gas furnace restricts airflow and downsidely impacts output and efficiency. The gas furnace can really cause problems with indoor air quality due to introducing and circulating air contaminants. There are also troubles with the hot air rising straight up to the ceiling and only falling back down once it has cooled off. To combat all of these potential drawbacks, I have enrolled into a maintenance method with a local Heating and A/C dealer. Every year, a professional inspects, cleans, tests and adjusts all of the components. I’ve also invested into ceiling fans to help push the heat back down toward the floor.
