When I was a youngster, I was quite stubborn.
Once I got an idea in my head that I thought was good, I kept going with it even if I was told not to.
I remember when I asked my parents why we didn’t do our own HVAC maintenance. They explained that HVAC maintenance had to be done by the professionals because they were the only ones qualified to repair such major systems in your home or workplace. Well, I kept studying about how to repair your own HVAC system and I thought it didn’t seem so challenging. I realized that the HVAC experts went to school to become HVAC certified, but I still felt all that was unnecessary. So even though my father warned me not to try messing with the HVAC system, I did anyway. I secretly ordered some new parts for the HVAC system and I worked to replace those parts when my parents weren’t home. I thought I did a great job because the HVAC system was working, but then it started to make crazy sounds. My parents called the HVAC pros immediately. The HVAC expert who came out said that somebody who wasn’t an HVAC expert worked on the HVAC equipment. He thought it was my father, but my father said that he always had only professionals working on the HVAC, so he didn’t see how that’s possible. I finally admitted that it was me and I thought I was helping us to save money. Well, it ended up costing my parents a lot of money because the HVAC was destroyed and it had to be replaced altogether. I ended up having to pay every cent back for the new HVAC and I had to work a paper route, mow lawns, shovel snow, and numerous other chores to eventually pay my parents back for the HVAC equipment that I destroyed.
