Nuke Your Way Through Summer Instead of Using the Stove all the Time

During the summers in the south, there are lots of things we do & don’t do in order to save on the costs of cooling the house, however one of the things we give up in our family is having large hearty meals… I make it a rule in our condo that when the air conditioner is running, the oven is off, however this is not because I am too lazy to cook.

  • It is because I do not want the air conditioner & the range to do battle with one another.

It is difficult enough for the exhausting air conditioner to try to reach the perfect temperature control setting when it is 100 degrees outside; it does not need the added burden of the furnace that is commonly called the stove. In the summer, we eat things we can nuke in the microwave. We also eat a lot of salads & sandwiches that don’t need to be cooked, but another favorite pastime of mine while I was in the Summer is to go out to eat. When you go out to eat, you get to soak up the a/c of the diner. There is no diner around here that would dream of operating without a/c. They would get no business at all, so it is fantastic to just go out when you want a large meal but are too cheap to use both the oven & the air conditioner! Conversely, I love to eat in more while I was in the fall & winter. The colder months are a time of nesting at lake condo & cooking hearty meals. It is okay to have the oven going all day because the furnace thanks you with a smaller utility bill when you help out a bit with the use of the stove. It’s funny how the seasons & the heating & cooling systems play a part in the food you eat.
