Every so often, I have to go out of town for work. One of my duties is to put on events for our membership, and all of our members are in the southern portion of the state. So, on those days, I have to figure out what to do about making sure my dog is well taken care of. I usually just get a dog sitter, but sometimes I choose to send her to a pet resort – otherwise known as a kennel. I think she is safer and happier at home, but I save money by sending her to the kennel. First off, the kennel is less per day than a sitter coming three times per day. Secondly, if I send her to the pet resort, I can turn the thermostat on my air conditioning way up high. I can set the thermostat way higher than I would if the dog was here. In fact, I might even turn off the a/c altogether. In fact, the HVAC technology at the pet resort is pretty amazing. Each dog has its own kennel sleeping area and run. The sleeping areas have mini split a/c units so the dogs don’t get heat stroke. That may sound funny, but it does get extremely hot here, and there have been instances of dogs dying from the heat while at kennels. In fact, it is no longer legal to run a dog kennel without HVAC. You must provide heating and cooling to the animals if you are going to charge money for pets to stay there.
