My son plays on a travel baseball team and even though it’s the middle of winter, they have already started practice. The place where they practice is a big indoor facility, and sometimes they have really big problems with the heating and cooling system inside of the place. Last week when he went to practice, it was freezing cold outside. We had a low last week of one degree and I think the temperature on the night of practice was only in the single digits. It was really cold. It’s a good thing I made him wear his long pants and layer up his shirts, because when he got to practice, it seemed that the heating system had gone down again. Inside of the facility, it was freezing cold. The coaches were running around looking for little electric space heaters that they could place here and there throughout the gym, but they only found one. They put it in the dugout area so the players could warm up their hands when they were waiting their turn at bat. The whole thing was just crazy. I wondered why they didn’t just cancel practice and let the kids go home where they could be safe and warm in their homes where their furnace actually worked, but these coaches are ridiculous when it comes to practice. It’s like they feel that they have to have practice every single week no matter what.
