Recently we replaced our existing heating, ventilation and cooling system because it was getting beyond the expected life date.
We experience a four to five month winter that can be brutal at times.
And our summers, although not usually longer than two and a half months in length, are very hot and humid. We really didn’t want to press our luck and have either the furnace or the central air conditioning break when we need it the most. After shopping around with HVAC distributors in our area, we selected one that had a great reputation for their product and their service. The removal of our old system and the installation of the new system took three days, but the HVAC contractors were very conscientious about the treatment of our home. They cleaned up after themselves every afternoon so that you could hardly tell that such a major operation had taken place. Once the operation was completed, the manager spent time with us to acquaint us with how the system operated, as well as how to use the thermostat, etc. The owner’s manual was several pages long, but we knew that we could always refer to it after the manager left. His explanations, although clear and thorough, seemed overwhelming at first. The digital thermostat alone almost required a separate class in order to take advantage of all of its features. Anyway, since the HVAC system had been set up to operate according to our preferences, there wasn’t much that we needed to do once we were on our own. Eventually, we made our way through the owner’s manual and found it to be really helpful. Not only did it give great verbal instructions, but there were plenty of labeled diagrams to follow as well. The subject index directed us to specific features, such as setting the thermostat, so that we didn’t waste a lot of time trying to locate the instructions. We now have a great new HVAC system and a great owner’s manual for future reference.
