Riding my bike is a great workout

I am fortunate that I work entirely from home.

This allows me to handle my job from any location with internet access. My husband recently retired from his job. He and I were extremely excited to finally move south. We’d had enough of sub zero temperatures, snow, rain, hail and the year round weather extremes. I exercise every day and was most often forced to handle my workouts inside. I didn’t dare pay for a gym membership because the roads are so often impassable. It was a rare occasion when I could actually run or bike outside. We are now located in an area where the conditions accommodate an outdoor workout for the majority of the year. I immediately bought myself a bicycle. I outfitted the bike with a basket on the front, a holster for my phone on the handlebars and a holder for a water bottle. I have a bluetooth speaker so that I can play my favorite music while I ride. The seat is comfortable and the basket holds a sweat towel, jump rope and whatever accessories I feel like bringing along. I am fortunate to have a paved bike path in close proximity to my house. The path winds through the woods, where I spot all kinds of birds, squirrels and turtles, and it extends for over sixty miles in either direction. I typically ride my bike twenty minutes to arrive at an athletic field. I then utilize the paved areas to stretch, run wind sprints and go through various lunges, squats and jumps. I workout at the field for approximately 45 minutes and then ride my bike back home. I use a higher gear and push myself to pedal faster to increase the intensity of the workout. Although it’s a very strenuous training session, I enjoy every minute of it. I appreciate the sunshine, fresh air and opportunity to get outside.
