I work for a locally-owned insurance company that has been steadily growing over the last two decades.
When I started we only had 15 workers, but now that has more than doubled to a count of 36. Despite the company’s growth, our boss is constantly making excuses for poor work conditions. It’s unbelievably ironic that the insurance company who covers our building forced my boss to replace the roof before it was too old. They said it was an insurance liability for them, which I cannot even begin to comprehend. How do you run an insurance company and then turn around and try to fleece a different insurance company that covers your own building? It’s amazing to me whenever I think about it. On top of that, the HVAC system desperately needs to be replaced. It’s too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. I got in trouble for bringing a space heater to work everyday, but without it I was shivering at my desk. There’s only so much clothing you can comfortably wear to work everyday. But thankfully my boss broke down and simply hired a cleaning company instead of claiming that it was his son-in-law’s job. The place was filthy and was going uncleaned so a few of my coworkers talked to the son-in-law. When we found out that he had never been hired to clean the office, we confronted our boss. He finally admitted it was a problem and said he would hire a proper cleaning company. I know that he doesn’t like paying for it, but a cleaning company is important in this kind of situation. This building isn’t going to clean itself.
