A geothermal heat pump in the bunker

My Uncle Mike is crazy, but I think it is the good kind of crazy. He lives in a cabin in the woods that he built with his own two hands. It looks like he built it, too, because it is crooked and warped around the edges. Obviously he didn’t know what he was doing, but he loves the place. He has confided in me that part of the reason he likes it is that no one would ever try to rob a place so ugly. It makes people think he is poor, or insane, but there is a method to his madness. He has a geothermal heat pump connected to an underground bunker, and that is where he spends most of his time. A geothermal heat pump pulls energy right of the ground, and then you can use it to power your home. Because of the name some people think that it is a heating pump, like the one in your central HVAC system, but this is not the case at all. A heating pump is used to warm your house, as a part of your furnace system. A geothermal heat pump uses the “geothermal heat” of the earth itself to harness kinetic energy, so while it can power your electric furnace, it can also power every other electric device you own! Having a geothermal heat pump means you don’t have to be connected to the main power grid, and are exempt from power outages except for the most extreme cases. Uncle Mike is crazy, but he does gave some good ideas.
