I didn’t ever understand why I went through so much laundry when I lived in my house until recently.
I’m not a particularly dirty person.
I don’t change my outfits for big events or a bustling social life. I don’t think I do anything special, to be honest with you. The one thing that I finally figured out after years of overpaying on my utilities and laundry machine, was the uneven temperatures throughout the home were not helping. I found myself putting sweatshirts on and off all day long, trying to manage my internal condition. But no matter what I did, I was instantly uncomfortable again by the time I walked into the next room over. The thing I finally started to realize was the temperature seemed to be the most appropriate in the center of the house. Meanwhile, the external rooms were more likely to be overly hot or cold, compared to what the thermostat read. I would notice that the AC was way cooler in the living room, while it was much warmer in the bedrooms. The furnace was always much warmer in those spaces, as well. That’s when I finally figured out the mystery – my heating, cooling, and air quality control system was being drastically affected by the lack of insulation around the home. The windows, doors, and ceiling were allowing a lot of hot and cold air to pass through the home. The heating and cooling system was able to maintain an accurate temperature in the center of the house, far from the poorly sealed openings. After adding a ton of insulation to the home, I stopped dealing with hot and cold uneven temperatures… and stopped doing so much laundry all the time to compensate.
