When I was growing up it was a strict household situation for sure.
I wasn’t able to leave the front door without my parents knowing where I was. My mom was always making sure I was in the place I said I would be. I’ll be honest, it was pretty exhausting to deal with. Having someone breathing down your neck all the time gets old pretty quickly. I never realized that the indoor air quality control system we had in place was actually aiding my family in these covert supervisions of my daily actions. I never really thought anything about the central heating, cooling, and air quality control system in general. I occasionally had to touch the central heating and cooling equipment’s basic dial thermostat when it was way too hot or cold to function in the house. Other than that, I never saw the furnace or air conditioning system one single time. I don’t even know if we had a single central heating, cooling, and air quality control maintenance appointment in the entire time I lived at home. And maybe that’s why I never really considered the possibility that the heating, cooling, and air quality control system was actually a player in my continual supervision. I never considered that the ductwork was a problem for my plight for freedom. I never once thought that my air vent in my room could possibly be used as a tool against me when it only provided air conditioning and heating before then. But apparently my mom loved to listen through the vents, connected through the ductwork. And the whole time I wondered how she was also so on top of my life.
