Moving away from home had been at the top of my list when I turned 18.

My parents were strict, and we often clashed because I saw the world differently from them. I’d started working at the mall at a young age and saved diligently. On my 18th birthday, I moved out and got an apartment where I stayed until I was 26. At the age of 26, I bought my first house thanks to a thriving business and savings culture. The house was in a lovely place on the outskirts of the city but needed several upgrades. Before moving in, I phoned an AC business to check the house’s air conditioning. It was spring, and I knew summer would be too hot to live without a proper cooling system. The AC company sent over an HVAC expert to inspect the central HVAC system in the house. The inspection was the best move I’d made because the AC professional noticed the ductwork was a mess. No one had done proper duct cleaning in the house for a long time. That’s why there was a musty smell. All the air vents had dust, debris, mold, and mildew which was hazardous for my health. It was too late to complain to the previous owner, so I opted to handle the cost of duct cleaning. The house was in good shape except for a few issues, so the air conditioning hitch wasn’t a significant setback. The AC mechanic came back to the house the next day and began working on the ductwork. Apart from mold and mildew growth in the vents, there were gaps that rats had used to bring in the grass to build nests. There were a total of 6 rats nests in the ducts, which would hamper conditioned air reaching the house that the AC worker removed.
