I have lived out here in a small town for a bit over a year now.
I am still getting adjusted to it… After years of living in the city, this place was a breath of fresh air.
Over time, there got to be too much fresh air! I came to realize I had to leave behind my ancient mindset and chill out to a certain level. These are farmers and country folks, and there is no hustle and bustle in the least. People don’t power walk, they amble, and every driver is essentially a Sunday driver. Although I was never hurting for actual work in the city, out here my Heating and Air Conditioning skills are not very much in demand. I spend a large part of my day farming, trying to grow a little bit of food, and only spend 15 or 20 hours a week doing Heating and Air Conditioning service jobs. Out here only some people have a central Heating and Air Conditioning appliance, however those folks are easily few and far between! Even when they do have one, they may not notice for months if it isn’t working because it hardly gets warm enough to run the AC appliance. The frosty season should be a busier season for me, because oil furnaces are pressing for the long, freezing winter months. There are all manner of oil furnaces in use around these parts, from natural gas and coal to electric. Even a couple of places with wood burning furnaces and fireplaces. I am hoping to have enough heating work this fall and Winter seasons to sustain myself and others through the remainder of the long, temperate year. A/C season will just be awful for business.
