I’ve faced a lot of smooth talkers in my time.
I was quick to learn that you cannot trust most of these types of people. When somebody is trying to sell you on something that seems too good to be true, you should follow your initial gut instinct and realize that it really is too good to be true. I remember when I first moved into my new home and this guy who claimed to be an HVAC professional sold me on some HVAC system for what seemed to be a great price. It was one of those prices that seemed impossible and I didn’t want to question it because I was young and inexperienced. He ended up taking my old HVAC system and convinced me he was doing me a solid because I didn’t have to worry about getting rid of it. It turned out that he installed some old HVAC unit from somebody else’s home and it was just as crappy as the old one I had. This one was actually worse though and I learned that relatively quickly. When I tried to complain about his services, there was nobody to complain to because his number was already disconnected. I realized that I had been conned and I have warned people not to deal with strangers like that who are not able to confirm their professional status. You always have to be careful with things like that, especially these days. I’m just glad I know a lot of honest and outstanding professionals, HVAC workers included. You just need to know where to find people you can trust.
