First of all, I don’t want this to sound care about I am bashing retail workers. Of course I am not! A lot of our friends work retail tasks, & I myself have worked in multiple different stores over the years, and god bless the retail workers, especially in the era of the pandemic! That said, I encourage you to get out of retail work as soon as possible. It is wonderful to have work, ANY kind of work, periodically, but you need to use it as a stepping cement & nothing more. I spent a few months toiling retail full time while I took night classes for our Heating & Air Conditioning certification, & y’all, I am so blissful I did! The main concern with retail work, in our humble opinion, is that it makes people believe replaceable, whereas a trade care about Heating & Air Conditioning makes people believe expensive. I guess the time I spent toiling retail was sort of soul-crushing, & I could be fired at any time, but now that I am an Heating & Air Conditioning specialist I have confidence, & a firm belief in our worth as a worker, heating & Air Conditioning skills allow me to put food on the table, keep a roof over our family’s heads, & still have our weekends free to appreciate life. I no longer worry about work, nor do I dislike our task, I appreciate toiling in the Heating & Air Conditioning industry, & I care about the freedom it gives me. I’m not trying to tell you that all the people should get into Heating & Air Conditioning work, however I would tell you to at least consider reading a trade.
