My friend Danny keeps telling me that he is ready to move south.
I don’t think that he really realizes what he’s getting into when he starts talking about moving to the southern part of the country, though.
I lived there for years and during the summer, the temperatures are just brutal. I remember crying one day because the window unit air conditioner that I had in my apartment window broke down and the temperatures were in the nineties that day. Down there, there is just no cooling off if you don’t have A/C. It’s basically just impossible. I remember being so sad that I didn’t have enough money to go and buy a new window unit A/C. I ended up calling up a friend with central air conditioning and sleeping on the couch at his house until payday. Thank goodness for friends that feel sorry for you when your A/C breaks down in the middle of the hottest part of the summer! Back then, I didn’t make enough money to live in a place with central air conditioning, but now I do. Of course, I lived in the south back then and now I live much further north. The weather here is not nearly as bad during the summer, but the winters are pretty bad. I just had to pay quite a bit for a furnace repair, but for me, that’s nothing compared to the heat where I used to live. I keep telling Danny that he’s in for a rude awakening and that he’s not going to like it, but he doesn’t seem to believe me for some reason. I guess he will have to learn for himself!
