There isn’t much a person can do to really get prepared for what a culture change it is to go from the city to the country.
Having been a city person my entire life, I had no idea what a change it would be to move to a rural community.
While I knew it would be different, I wasn’t ready for some of the more subtle differences. I decided that it just wasn’t worth having the perfect HVAC maintained office downtown anymore. The city was just getting to me with all the noise, the traffic and the constant movement. It became sort of physically overwhelming. So, I worked out a deal where I could work from home and just come to the office once a week or so. This turned out to be one of the better decisions that I have ever made. It’s funny that the first person I made friends with was someone who was transitioning his job as well. That was the HVAC guy. The house I bought had to have the entire HVAC unit replaced. I hired a guy that was just going into business for himself. It was an easy choice. He was so well organized, professional and knowledgeable. And he was hungry for the business. He did a great job on the HVAC upgrade. It’s still getting it done nearly 20 years later. And the HVAC guy is now one of the main HVAC companies in the region. He’s really done well for himself. And yet, he is still as loyal and down to earth as he was when we first met. I’ll be sticking with his HVAC company for the duration.
