Rent or buy the boiler?

Renting or owning, that is the question.

Certain things in life are better to own while others are nice to rent. Also your stage of life and finances changes things a bit. I know I got stuck renting a home because I just wasn’t able to afford the type of house I wanted. I also didn’t want to buy a home when I was single. I choose to lease a really nice car since I hardly drive. When it came time to buy a boiler system for my little business, I had to decide on renting or owning. The first thing I did was look up the pros and cons of renting vs owning. Owning a boiler means that you for sure get a brand new system. When renting, you are kind of taking a dice roll on the age. When buying, the new boiler typically comes with a warranty and you save more money overtime. If you rent for years, you could have bought a system easily. Renting short term, is smarter though. You also get the chance to shop around. Do you want a steam or hot water boiler? Renting the system allows you to take it for a test drive. Also, the repairs on the system don’t fall to you either. The boiler rental company has to come in and fix when anything goes wrong. When you are ready for a new system, install and handle all the removal. It is a really nice service. You are potentially damaging your business taking giant systems in and out. I guess you just have to decide if it is worth shopping around and saving money. Some people take the plunge right away and buy their system.
