It was getting hot in the elevator already, but I turned on the A/C unit and it started to cool everything down
I’m a courier and I am always picking up and delivering packages. With this type of work, I have learned that I always must be prepared for whatever happens. I have a backpack that I regularly keep with me and I have a few essential items. I carry a few water bottles, snacks, and I even have a small portable A/C unit. I got into this habit of carrying a backpack full of things because I had a bad experience a long time ago when I was stuck in an elevator for a long time without any air conditioning, food, or water. It’s funny, recently, this happened to me again, but I was prepared! You would think that I would just take the stairs since I don’t really trust elevators, but I feel fine because I have my backpack with everything I need to get through that type of situation. Recently, I ended up being stuck on the elevator with a few others while I was trying to deliver a package to the top floor. It was actually a power outage in the building that caused the elevator to stop. The backup light turned on but the elevator wouldn’t move. So, I calmly opened my backpack and brought out the portable A/C unit. It was getting hot in the elevator already, but I turned on the A/C unit and it started to cool everything down. The others asked me how I knew to bring a portable A/C unit, and I told them this wasn’t the first time I had been stuck on an elevator. I even passed everybody some beef jerky and water bottles. We were stuck for about an hour, and we were relieved when the power finally came back on and we were able to get off the elevator.
