Forgetfulness

AI or Artificial Intelligence is superior to the human brain in one way only; that it never forgets anything.

AI never enters a room only to forget why it went there in the first place, nor does it ever have to spend hours looking for some lost car keys.

Birthdays, anniversaries, bus schedules, and appointments are all there on demand. Being able to forget, in my opinion, is a blessing. I can forget about how I was rejected by my high school crush “Susan” who preferred the company of the captain of the football team. Later on in life, no one questions the excuse “I forgot” compared to the skepticism I faced when I was younger. Up until a few years ago, I had an advantage over my HVAC system. It lacked any “memory” thus it was unable to forget anything. It depended on me to tell it everything. I had to set the thermostat, turn it off when I left for an extended time and if I wanted it cooler or warmer, I had to physically change the temperature settings. Now, my smart system handles all of that so efficiently that it rarely needs any input from me. With all its new memory, I think it has forgotten how kind I was to keep it well maintained and cleaned with regular maintenance with a qualified HVAC technician. It probably shares its deepest secrets with my smartphone and complains how forgetful I have become. They probably spend hours gossiping about that HVAC tech who looks like that football player that stole Susan from me. I’d tell you his name, but I forgot what it was.
