I just don’t care about writing the utility bill check during the summer.
It’s always been this way.
Our section is really, genuinely hot & humid during the summer. So, the utility bill just gets off the rails. It has been something that I have allowed to continue when just a bit of effort could have saved me thousands over the past few months. This year, I decided that just hating the utility bill was not enough. I wanted to attack it head on. That’s why I did just a meager amount of research online to find ways of mitigating the Heating & A/C costs. There are loads of ideas out there on trimming the fat when it comes to cooling the condo in the summer. Most were regular sense however some were extremely insightful. The first thing I had to do was to learn how to program my Heating & A/C control unit. This was far less hard than I thought it would be. By programming the control unit, I am able to let the temps in the condo rise as they do outdoors. I try to keep a 15 degree difference between inside & outside temps during the heat of the day. I also bought some solar curtains. They do a remarkable job of stopping the ambient air from being heated by the direct sunlight. However, shortly after that I went a bit further by sealing the condo up tight. I hadn’t thought of that but, there were many gaps & cracks in the exterior & interior of my condo that were allowing cool air our & boiling air in. When I tied all those things together, I saved over 20 percent on our Heating & A/C prices.
