I don’t really like writing the utility bill check while I was in the summer.
It’s consistently been this way. Our area is really, easily tepid & humid while I was in the summer. So, the utility bill just gets off the rails. It has been something that I have allowed to continue when just a bit of effort could have saved me at least a few thousand bucks over the years. This year, I decided that just hating the utility bill was not enough. I wanted to attack it. That’s why I did just a meager amount of research online to find ways of mitigating the HVAC fees. There are loads of ideas out there on trimming the fat when it comes to cooling your apartment in the summer. Most were proper sense however some were genuinely insightful. The first thing I had to do was to learn how to program our HVAC thermostat. This was much less complicated than I thought it would be. By programming the thermostat, I am able to let the temps in the apartment rise as they do outside. I try to keep a 15 degree difference between inside and outside temps when I am in the heat of the afternoon. I also bought some solar curtains. They do a remarkable job of stopping the ambient air from being heated by the direct sunlight. But, then I went a bit further by sealing the entire place up. I hadn’t thought of that but, there were several gaps and cracks in the exterior and interior of our apartment that were allowing cool air out and warm air in. When I tied all those things together, I saved over 20 percent on our HVAC fees.
