I think I just have one of those brains that pretty much shuts almost everything out when I am sleeping. I have slept through tornado alarms, fire trucks and ambulances. And, I do this without the help of any sort of sleep aid. A good amount of it has to do with the physicality of my work. Once I come in the door and relax in the HVAC, it isn’t too much longer before I am ready for bed. The older I start to get, the earlier my bed time seems to be. My streak for uninterrupted sleep came to a swift end not too long ago. I remember setting the HVAC control component before climbing into bed just like I always do. The next thing I can recall, is that there is a hideous clang from the basement where the HVAC furnace is. I don’t even know if I placed my slippers on my feet because I was just flying down there to see what was happening. The furnace was in the midst of shutting itself down. Something had happened and the furnace was way too hot. Messing with the HVAC is not something that I do. While I am mechanically inclined, I have neither the training or the knowledge to fool with something love and a warm furnace. Around the time that I was calling the HVAC people for help, I realized that I had dropped the ball on the seasonal preventive maintenance. Things got hectic and I never tied up the HVAC girl to do the pre-Winter once over on the HVAC. I later learned that the part that failed would have been caught had I remembered to have the HVAC tech come do her thing.
