Finally, the painful process of building a home is nearing the end. I am so thankful to have lived through this process. Everything is done except a few odds and ends. The finish line is in sight and I can’t wait to get in the new place. Our HVAC contractor was here just the other day to walk the home with us prior to our heating and cooling installation. He found us a terrific model with a really high SEER rating. All the measuring and factoring for the HVAC install has been completed. The ductwork is in and the our HVAC contractor is very happy with it. He has been very thorough and exacting throughout the process. The HVAC contractor showed me how simply adding any HVAC unit to a home is a huge mistake. Apparently, there are plenty of folks who find a great deal on a heating and cooling system. Then, they jam it in there house no matter if it’s too big or not enough. I learned that doing this is a mistake. An HVAC system that is too big will end up starting up and shutting down all the time. This is called short cycling. Short cycling will add so much strain to a heating and cooling unit that it will degrade the unit and take nearly half the longevity off a new unit. A system that is too small just won’t be effective because it won’t be able to ever catch up. So, it is imperative that you consult a certified HVAC contractor before installing or replacing any heating and cooling unit.
