HVAC Issue Causes Internal Change in My HOA

I would be what might be referred to as a reluctant member of our HOA.

While I completely agree that there is a place for a some sort of community association to uphold standard, I hate the HOA.

Our property values deserve to be protected but not at the cost of our civility. Well, it all recently came to a thunder head that had no recourse but to rain itself out. There are several homeowners in our community who are pensioners. They bought here when the community was just starting and have been great neighbors. These folks are also on a much more constrictive household budget than many of their neighbors. My view is these folks should be honored and respected. And if needed, they should be protected. I’m not saying that pensioners can’t look out for their selves, because I assure you that they can. However, when there is an organized effort to disrespect, ridicule and threaten this group of neighbors, then I’m going to step in and see who follows. Our HOA has been targeting the older members of our community over HVAC issues. They begin with ugly warnings that elevate to threats of fines or worse. What’s the big complaint? These people have HVAC units which are older and have faded out condenser units. In fact, they are pressuring these people to upgrade their HVAC equipment. I’m not having it and have created a veritable mob who has begun a series of counter measures against the HOA. We got some lawyers involved who have scared these hollow HOA officials into backing down. But, I’m not stopping until the HOA actually apologizes to our fine neighbors.
