After having agreed to rent a dwelling for a year before even being able to go on an in person tour I believe it would be tolerable to say that I brought the situation that I am currently in upon myself. This last year I was provided with a dream position working as an intern in a large city. This was all superb and well, but the only setback was that it happened to be an unpaid internship… Due to this I needed to discover a cheap location to stay. After searching online for numerous hours I was able to find a location that seemed pretty good. I honestly didn’t have the money to fly across the nation just to go on a tour of the location, so I took a massive leap of faith and agreed to sign the lease only from looking at the pictures and descriptions online. Upon my arrival however, I hastily discovered that the property I had agreed to rent and the one I was kneeling in were not the same thing at all. There were mold spots all over the ceiling, the air conditioner equipment didn’t work, and there were bars on the windows… Soon after my arrival I attempted calling the guy who had rented the location out to me to see if the two of us could work something out about the mold or the lack of air conditioning in the dwelling. According to this scam artist none of that was required in the contract. Take it from a person who had to learn the hard way and never agree to live in a place you have never visited. Also always make sure to go over the fine print.
