After having agreed to rent an apartment for a year before even being able to go on an in person tour I think it would be fair to say that I brought the situation that I am currently in upon myself..
Last month I was offered a dream position working as an intern in the big city.
This was all fine and well, but the only problem was that it was an unpaid internship. Due to this I needed to find a cheap place to stay, so after searching online for hours I found a place that seemed nice. I didn’t have the money to fly across the country just to do a tour of the place, so I took a leap of faith and agreed to sign the lease only from looking at the pictures and descriptions online. Upon my arrival however, I quickly discovered that the apartment I had agreed to rent and the one I was standing in were not the same thing. There were mold spots on the ceiling, the air conditioning unit didn’t work, and there were bars on the windows for some reason. Shortly after my arrival I tried calling the person who had rented the place out to me to see if we could do anything about the mold or the lack of air conditioning, but according to this scam artist none of that was required in the contract. Take it from someone who had to learn the hard way and never agree to live somewhere you have never visited, and also always read the fine print.
