I’ve been listening to a lot of podcasts for the past few weeks, trying to fill my time and silence space with some interesting perspectives. It has been going well, and I’ve been enjoying all of my radio shows for the past month, but I think they might be driving my husband crazy. Ironically enough, several of the podcasts have been about the added pressure being put on relationships during this quarantine. Apparently, couples are really getting upset with each other being in such close quarters for weeks on end. I have to say, I haven’t been feeling the same way. Luckily, my husband and I have been getting along really well and we’ve actually developed new hobbies to do together during this shelter in place order. Namely, we have been watching a lot of DIY home repair videos and learning how to fix up our central HVAC system without paying for a professional heating and cooling technician. Before all of this happened, we were both aware that our indoor air quality was declining. Every month, our energy bill was slowly creeping up and our HVAC system was running for longer periods of time each day. It was clear that we were going to need a major furnace and air conditioning overhaul, along with a proper air duct cleaning, and a new thermostat wouldn’t hurt either. We were both too busy to tackle any of our air quality issues at the time, so we simply anticipated a massive HVAC repair bill in the future. Well, now that we have nothing else to do, we’ve decided to handle the heating and cooling system on our own. My husband and I are actually happier and healthier than ever, with lower energy bills, cleaner air, and a more comfortable quarantine space.
