What started out as a quick trip on a ship, ended up being a three-week horror.
We had only put to sea when someone got sick. It didn’t take long for the on-board doctor to decide that this could be something serious. I saw a helicopter and so did most of the other people on the ship. Two days later, when we were about to get off the ship, we all ended up being quarantined. My friend and I were thinking it wouldn’t be so bad to stay on the ship for two more weeks, since we didn’t have to pay. They had excellent food and there would be an open bar. The air conditioning in our suite was fantastic. Then we found out that we had to stay in our rooms until the quarantine was over. They didn’t want anyone else to come down with coronavirus. The fantastic food and open bar were gone. We had to order whatever we wanted, and we got it through no-contact delivery. We sat there, playing games, watching television and just looking at the water. I started to think about the other people. I couldn’t imagine being below deck. I was hoping their air conditioning was as good as our air conditioning. The AC below deck would probably need to be better since there were no doors or windows they could open. We had a private deck that we could sit on while we were under quarantine. I was glad we had made the choice and paid the extra money for the suite. I don’t know if I would have survived three weeks without fresh air, even if there is excellent AC.
