The power went out this year on Thanksgiving Day

This year, we decided to have Thanksgiving at our parents’ house.

It was crazy because we got this huge snowstorm and it knocked the power out.

This was very unfortunate because we were not able to watch football! The good news is that my mother has a gas on gas stove that uses a pilot light. So she was able to cook the turkey dinner just fine as well as everything else for our Thanksgiving feast. Regrettably, the central heating system would not work because it requires the electricity to light the gas burners and to operate the system fan to blow the air through the ductwork. Fortunately, my mother has a really nice fireplace in the living room and between the fireplace and the gas stove working, the home was not chilly. It was like some kind of old fashioned Thanksgiving, and all of us were bummed out about not being able to watch the football games. Then my younger brother showed up and asked why we looked so disappointed. We said the power was out and we couldn’t watch the football games. Then he pulled out his portable radio and said we could at least listen to the games if we couldn’t watch them! Our baby brother was a genius! So we got the games on the radio right away, all while we were smelling the delicious food that was being prepared by our mother. She wanted everybody to stay out of the kitchen as usual, and we were just listening to the game. Eventually the power came back on and we were actually able to turn on the TV and the central heating system.
